Okc Memorial Marathon Live Updates: 30,000 Runners Fill Downtown Oklahoma City

The okc memorial marathon is underway in downtown Oklahoma City, with the 5K, senior, and kids marathons already completed on Saturday morning and the main race now in motion. Sunday’s races brought 30, 000 runners to the city center as the weekend events unfolded. Updates are being tracked through the day on winners, weather, and course conditions, with live coverage from multiple points along the route.
Race Weekend Moves Through Downtown
The okc memorial marathon is drawing a large field to downtown Oklahoma City, and the race day picture is already taking shape along the course. News 9’s David Payne is tracking the lead marathon runner, while Colby Thelen and Lisa Monahan are reporting from Gorilla Hill, about 7 miles into the course. Jennifer Pierce is live from the starting line, where runners were seen taking pictures with Rumble the Bison as they moved through downtown OKC.
Saturday’s opening races included the 5K, the senior marathon, and the kids marathon. The Senior Marathon winner, George Bowers, and the Kids Marathon winner, Eli Janzen, were highlighted as examples of how the memorial weekend continues to connect generations through the Run to Remember. At the starting line, Elizabeth Fitz watched runners begin their route through downtown Oklahoma City as the day’s race events got underway.
Road Closures And Access To Downtown
Access into downtown Oklahoma City has been affected by a closure along NW 10th Street near Interstate 235. Drivers heading toward downtown this morning are being urged to plan alternate routes and allow extra time.
Roads tied to the course began closing at 5 a. m. on Saturday and are scheduled to reopen by 11: 30 a. m. that day. On Sunday, closures began at 6 a. m. and are set to lift by 1: 40 p. m. The downtown route means several streets around the course remain impacted while the okc memorial marathon continues.
Moments From The Course
The memorial weekend is also bringing quieter moments into the center of the action. The Blessing of the Shoes took place the night before the marathon at First Church at 5th & Robinson, offering runners a moment to reflect before race day.
Ashley Carreon, who won the 2025 Oklahoma City Women’s Memorial Marathon, finished the 5K this year while 8 months pregnant. She pointed to the 168 banners along the course, honoring those killed in the bombing, and said, “Seeing those banners, it’s like, this isn’t just a race. ” Jenny Simpson won the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon Women’s 5K in 17: 58.
What Comes Next
More live updates are expected throughout the weekend as the okc memorial marathon continues through the longer races and downtown streets gradually reopen. News 9 says it will keep updating winners, weather, course notes, and video highlights as the event moves forward. For runners, families, and spectators, the okc memorial marathon remains a moving mix of competition, remembrance, and crowd energy in downtown Oklahoma City.
