Nba The Run Heads to PS5 This June After First Gameplay Trailer

nba the run is set to arrive on PlayStation 5 in June, after Play by Play Studios unveiled its first gameplay trailer and new details on the game’s structure. The studio says the basketball title is built around short, quick knockout contests on iconic streetball courts, with randomized rulesets shaping each round. The announcement also points to a closed beta playtest on May 1, 2026, from 12-3 p. m. ET on PC.

NBA The Run puts speed and momentum first

The studio says nba the run will feature four-round knockout tournaments, with each game built as a fast burst of play that forces constant adjustment. The rules can change from match to match, and the momentum system is designed to reward big plays with powerful signature abilities tied to individual players.

That means one run can swing quickly. Offensive pushes can unlock Posterizer, while defensive impact can trigger The Shadow, giving players a way to turn a close game in a heartbeat. The studio says the design is meant to keep the action moving while preserving the feel of a high-stakes streetball contest.

Unlocks, legends, and familiar voices are part of the package

Progress in nba the run will also feed into an unlock system based on Cred, the game’s in-game currency. Players can spend it on cosmetics such as jerseys, advanced dunks, taunts, badges, and banners, while Rookie Variants are being positioned as a major prize. The studio says these include five rookie versions of NBA All-Stars, with examples cited as young Steph Curry from 2009 and KD on the Sonics.

Another layer comes through rank progression, which unlocks streetball legends with major strengths and clear weaknesses. The studio also confirmed that Bobbito Garcia, the announcer, will be a playable legend. In a separate licensing comment, Nikki Pozzi, Vice President of Licensing at THNK450, said: “NBA THE RUN captures the spirit of the video game classics that inspired generations of fans to fall in love with basketball. ”

Community features and launch plans stay central

Play by Play Studios says nba the run has been shaped with player feedback from the beginning. The team says it added a court selected through fan vote, plus suggestions that helped shape advanced dunk animations, taunts, and additional ways to play. The studio also highlighted Shootaround mode for practice and Knockout Friends, a private tournament option that supports solo play against AI, co-op against AI, or head-to-head invites for up to 48 players at launch.

Launch details remain broad beyond June on PlayStation 5, with additional platform availability named for Xbox and PC in the context of the release window. The closed beta playtest begins on May 1, 2026, from 12-3 p. m. ET on PC, giving players an early look at the game before release.

What happens next for nba the run

For now, nba the run is moving from reveal mode into a more public testing and launch phase. The first gameplay trailer has set the tone, the June window is now in place, and the next major checkpoint is the May 1 closed beta playtest on PC. If the studio follows through on the systems it has laid out, nba the run is aiming to land as a fast, community-shaped streetball game when it reaches PS5 this June.
