Klaudia Zakrzewska death after Soho nightclub car hit sparks murder probe

Klaudia Zakrzewska died after a car hit pedestrians in Soho in the early hours of 19 April, police said. The 32-year-old from Essex was taken to hospital after the collision on Argyll Street near Oxford Circus, but died on Saturday. The Met Police said the charge against the driver will now be amended from attempted murder to murder after Klaudia Zakrzewska’s death.

What happened on Argyll Street

Emergency services were called to Argyll Street at about 04: 30 BST after a car hit pedestrians outside a nightclub. Police said a 30-year-old woman was left in a critical condition, while a man in his 50s suffered life-changing injuries and a third woman, aged in her 30s, received minor injuries.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell said the force’s thoughts were with those affected and urged people not to speculate. She also appealed for witnesses, saying a number of people may have seen what happened because venues in the area were still open when the incident unfolded. The case is not being treated as terrorism-related.

Klaudia Zakrzewska and the court case

Gabrielle Carrington, 29, of Broadfield Road in Manchester, had already been charged with attempted murder, grievous bodily harm with intent, actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and drink driving. She appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 21 April and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 19 May.

Police said Carrington was arrested at the scene after the collision. Witness footage described in the court coverage showed a confrontation between several women in the street before a car moved forward and struck people near the pavement. The Met has not set out a wider motive in the material available for this report.

Family reaction and public concern

A fundraiser set up in Klaudia Zakrzewska’s name described her as having a “pure heart, ” while her mother said the family was facing its most devastating time. In a message shared in the fundraising appeal, she said doctors do not believe her daughter will survive, and added that Klaudia Zakrzewska was strong and still had a chance.

Det Ch Insp Foxwell said the force recognised the strong public interest in the case and repeated the call for restraint online. The focus now shifts to the next court date, as the murder charge is prepared and investigators continue to gather witness accounts tied to Klaudia Zakrzewska and the Soho collision.

As the investigation moves forward, police are expected to continue piecing together the moments before the crash, while the court process advances toward the hearing listed for 19 May in ET terms. For the family, friends, and those still recovering, Klaudia Zakrzewska remains at the center of a case that has quickly turned from a shocking street collision into a murder investigation.
