Ryan Sessegnon extension lifts Fulham as Silva calls him a perfect match

Ryan Sessegnon has had his Fulham contract option triggered, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2026/27 season. Marco Silva described the 25-year-old as a player he “really love[s]” and said he hopes Fulham can do something different in the coming months. The move comes as Fulham continue to push through the final stretch of the season with just five games left.

Ryan Sessegnon stays as Fulham look to finish strongly

The contract option means Ryan Sessegnon will remain tied to Fulham beyond this summer, when his deal had been due to expire. Silva said the extension is “very important for the football club” and hinted there could still be more to come if talks develop over the next few months.

Sessegnon’s return to Fulham in July 2024 followed five injury-hit years at Tottenham, and he has since built up a stronger role in Marco Silva’s squad. He has made 52 appearances in all competitions across the last two seasons and has delivered two goals and three assists in 26 Premier League appearances this season.

Silva praise underlines his value

Silva framed the extension as a reward for a player who has grown through the club and adapted to multiple roles. He said Sessegnon “did grow in our football club as a boy, a man, ” and added that Fulham can use him “in many different ways” because he is versatile and technically strong.

The Fulham manager’s comments came after he confirmed that Kenny Tete is out again, Kevin is still working individually, and Alex Iwobi will miss time with a hamstring injury. That leaves Fulham managing several absences while trying to keep their season alive in the closing weeks.

What the extension means now

Fulham’s top-end targets still hinge on results, with Silva stressing that three points in the next match would keep pressure on the teams above. Brighton, Bournemouth, and Chelsea have all played an extra game, while Brentford are due to play on Monday night, leaving Fulham with a narrow window to move closer to their goal.

For Sessegnon, the message from the club is clear: he is not only part of the present, but a player Fulham want to build around. The latest step keeps Ryan Sessegnon at Craven Cottage for at least another year, with Silva openly suggesting the story may not end there.
