Michael Cast: Diana Ross Scenes Cut From the Biopic Ahead of Friday Release

The michael cast has been reshaped just ahead of the April 24 release of the Michael Jackson film, after Kat Graham said the scenes she filmed as Diana Ross were removed because of “certain legal considerations. ” Graham made the disclosure on Thursday morning, saying the affected moments are no longer in the final cut. The change comes as the film prepares to hit theaters Friday, with its release timed in Eastern Time.

What Was Removed From the Michael Cast

Graham said she filmed scenes with an “incredible cast, ” but those moments did not survive the final version. The michael cast still centers on Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson, with Antoine Fuqua directing and Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kendrick Sampson, and Larenz Tate also part of the ensemble.

The adjustment follows major reshoots after the film’s third act was deemed unusable. The original screenplay had included material tied to a 1993 lawsuit that accused Jackson of child sexual abuse, an allegation he denied. After filming, producers found that a clause in the settlement with the young accuser barred any depiction or mention of him in film or television, forcing the project to be reworked.

Kat Graham Explains the Cut

“Ahead of the April 24 release of the Michael Jackson film, I want to share that certain legal considerations affected a few scenes, including the ones I filmed with an incredible cast, ” Graham wrote Thursday morning. “Unfortunately, those moments are no longer part of the final cut, though the team worked hard to preserve as much of the story as possible. ”

The michael cast change appears to be part of those broader creative revisions, though Graham did not single out any specific scene. The film also does not include Janet Jackson as a character.

Legal Pressure Shaping the Film

Those behind the production have not publicly detailed every edit, but the legal framework surrounding the film has clearly had a direct impact on what audiences will see. The movie’s chronology now ends in 1988, narrowing its scope from the longer version that was initially developed. The michael cast remains intact in its main roles, but the surrounding story has been trimmed to fit the legal limits that emerged after filming.

Jaafar Jackson portrays the pop star, with Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson and Nia Long as Katherine Jackson. Miles Teller plays manager John Branca, Laura Harrier plays Suzanne De Passe, Kendrick Sampson plays Quincy Jones, and Larenz Tate plays Berry Gordy.

Why Diana Ross Is Not in the Final Cut

Ross was part of the story in earlier scenes, but those scenes were removed from the final version. The issue appears tied to the broader legal changes that affected the film’s ending, especially the material connected to the 1993 case and the settlement restrictions that followed.

That means the michael cast audiences meet on screen will be narrower than the one first filmed. The production still aims to tell a version of Jackson’s early years, including his relationship with his father and the rise that followed.

What Happens Next

With the April 24 release approaching in Eastern Time, attention now shifts to how viewers respond to the film’s reduced scope and to the legal questions that shaped it. The michael cast may still draw strong interest because of its high-profile roles and its focus on Jackson’s early career, but the missing Diana Ross material will remain one of the clearest signs of how much the production changed before release.

As opening day arrives, the michael cast will be judged not only on performance, but on how much of the story survived the final cut.
