The announcement is the latest installment in a legal fight that began in 2018, when families of people killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting sued Jones for defamation. Jones repeatedly claimed on air that the shooting was a hoax, and he lost the lawsuits filed against him in Texas and Connecticut after failing to meaningfully participate in discovery.
