Wizzair launches Turin base with seven routes in September 2026

Wizzair is set to open a new base at Turin Airport in September 2026, marking a major shift for the carrier in northern Italy. The move will bring two Airbus A320-family aircraft to Turin and add seven routes linking the city with destinations in Spain and Italy. The base is scheduled to begin on September 14, 2026, with phased route launches continuing into December 2026.
Wizzair’s Turin expansion starts in September 2026
Wizzair is moving Turin from a regular destination into a dedicated base, a change that will give the airline more control over its schedule and capacity in the region. The first wave begins on September 14, 2026, with service to Rome Fiumicino, Barcelona, and Bilbao. On September 15, 2026, Wizzair will add Valencia to the network. The airline plans up to 11 weekly flights on Turin-Rome Fiumicino, daily service to Barcelona, three weekly flights to Bilbao, and four weekly flights to Valencia.
On October 25, 2026, the second permanently based aircraft will enter service and unlock further expansion. That same period will bring four weekly flights to Madrid, followed by three weekly flights to Malaga on October 26, 2026. The final route in the 2026 rollout is a daily connection to Naples, scheduled to begin on December 1, 2026.
What the new base means for Wizzair
The Turin move is Wizzair’s first dedicated base at the airport and is intended to strengthen its position in northern Italy. The airline had already built a strong local presence, with more than 2, 100 flights originating from Turin during 2025. By basing aircraft at the airport, Wizzair aims to increase frequency and improve scheduling flexibility across short-haul routes.
For passengers, the immediate effect will be a broader set of choices between Italy and Spain, especially on leisure and city-break routes. The Spanish network from Turin will include Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, Madrid, and Malaga, while domestic links will cover Rome Fiumicino and Naples. The structure of the rollout suggests a deliberate focus on high-demand routes that can support regular service through different parts of the year.
Route phasing and network impact
The rollout is being staged in phases rather than all at once, with the first routes opening in mid-September and the last route arriving in early December. That approach gives Wizzair a chance to build operations steadily while adding capacity as each aircraft arrives. It also means the Turin base will grow into its full form over time rather than taking shape in a single launch day.
Turin Airport is positioned to gain from the new base, especially as Wizzair adds more consistent service on routes that can be sensitive to seasonal swings. The combination of one daily route, several weekly routes, and two based aircraft is designed to keep the operation active across the network while supporting both domestic and international traffic.
What comes next for Wizzair in Turin
The next major milestone will be the arrival of the second aircraft in late October 2026, which will complete the initial base build-out. After that, attention will turn to how the seven routes perform once they are in operation and whether the carrier adjusts frequencies later on. For now, Wizzair’s Turin base stands as a clear signal of deeper commitment to the city and to the broader Italian market, with the full network set to come online through late 2026.
