Face Off in Monte Carlo: Alcaraz and Sinner Set for Final

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will face off in the Monte Carlo Masters final on Sunday, with the winner taking the world number one spot. The match brings together the defending champion and the tournament’s second seed after both won their semi-finals in straight sets on Saturday ET. It will be their first meeting since Sinner’s straight-sets victory in the ATP Finals championship match last November.
Alcaraz and Sinner advance in straight sets
Sinner beat third seed Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-4, while Alcaraz ended the run of home favourite Valentin Vacherot 6-4, 6-4. Sinner finished the match in 82 minutes, converting all four of his break chances and never facing a break point. Alcaraz needed 84 minutes and converted three of four break points against Vacherot, who became the first Monaco native to reach the semi-finals at Monte Carlo.
For both players, the final adds another layer to a season that is already building toward a major ranking swing. Alcaraz, the world number one, and Sinner are both chasing their 27th ATP Tour title. The result on Sunday ET will decide who leaves Monte Carlo at the top of the rankings conversation.
Face Off carries world number one stakes
Sinner said he was pleased with how his clay-court feedback session had turned into a place in the final. “I’m very happy. We came here trying to give myself some feedback [on clay] and now finding myself in the final means a lot to me, ” he said. He added: “When you are a break up straight away, it changes the dynamic of the match. I have nothing to lose. Coming here and making the final means a lot to me, so of course I will try to push as much as I can tomorrow on the last day. ”
Alcaraz called the final “the dream spot for everyone” and said: “I’m fighting for a second Monte Carlo title, he’s fighting for his first one. ” He added that “the number one is on the line, ” and said he was excited for his first meeting with Sinner in 2026. That makes this Face Off more than a title match; it is also a direct test between two players in form.
Quick context on the contest
Sinner has now reached the first three Masters 1000 finals in a season, becoming the first man to do so since Novak Djokovic in 2015. He is also on a 21-match winning streak at Masters 1000 level and has already won in Indian Wells and Miami. Alcaraz is aiming to seal his third title of the 2026 season on Sunday ET.
What happens next
All eyes now move to Sunday ET, when the final will settle both the Monte Carlo title and the ranking outcome. With Alcaraz and Sinner each in strong form and each carrying a different kind of pressure, the Face Off is set to be the defining match of the tournament.
