Sharjeel Khan targets PSL comeback after losing 28kg in two years

Sharjeel Khan says sharjeel khan has returned to the Pakistan Super League with a clear purpose after spending two years away from the competition and dropping 28 kilograms. The Hyderabad Kingsmen batter said the break was difficult, but it gave him time to rebuild his fitness and sharpen his game ahead of PSL 11 in Karachi. He now wants to turn that preparation into results for a new-look side that is still finding its rhythm.
Fitness work became the turning point
Sharjeel said he worked with a professional trainer and dietitian during the two-year spell away from the league, treating the process as a long-term reset rather than a quick fix. He said the experience helped him understand the level of fitness required to last in professional cricket, adding that the lesson arrived late but mattered for his career.
He said the work did more than trim weight. It also changed his approach to lifestyle and preparation, while keeping him active through domestic cricket and other leagues so he could stay ready for competition. In his words, the comeback had to be earned, not rushed.
Middle-order role and team-first mindset
Sharjeel said he has adjusted his batting plans to fit Hyderabad Kingsmen’s needs, preparing for the middle order after the squad was finalised. He said he began working on that role about six weeks to a month and a half before the tournament so he could contribute wherever required.
He said his main personal target is simple: help the team win. Sharjeel added that he wants match-winning performances in at least three to four games during PSL 11, while keeping the focus on team success rather than individual numbers. He has played one match in the ongoing season and scored 51 runs off 26 balls.
Hyderabad Kingsmen are still settling
Sharjeel described Hyderabad Kingsmen as a new side that will need time to settle. He said the dressing room environment is positive and noted that foreign players have helped strengthen team harmony.
He also expressed hope that the team can improve during the Karachi leg of the tournament. “We just need one win and our momentum will change, ” he said, underscoring how quickly a result could alter the mood around the squad.
What this return means
For Sharjeel, the comeback is about more than a place in the XI. It is a test of whether the fitness gains and the new discipline he embraced can translate into consistent performances at the PSL level.
With sharjeel khan now back in the competition, Hyderabad Kingsmen will be watching closely to see whether his weight loss, his middle-order preparation, and his renewed focus can help shape the next phase of their campaign.
