Michael Carrick backed by Amad Diallo as Man United players push for permanent role

Michael Carrick has received a public vote of confidence from Manchester United winger Amad Diallo, who says the interim head coach is the right man for the job. The comments came during United’s four-day training camp in the Republic of Ireland as the club weighs its next permanent appointment. United are expected to wait until the end of the season before making a final decision.
Amad says Michael Carrick has the right profile
Amad said Carrick has the experience, club knowledge and connection with the squad to keep the role beyond the current spell. He pointed to the atmosphere around the team and said the players are happy working under him.
“From a personal view he’s the right man, ” Amad said. “He has a lot of experience; he knows the club and has the DNA. His relationship with every player is very good. ”
He added that it is not for the players to decide the future of the job, but said the squad is “really happy to have Michael Carrick as a manager. ”
Results have strengthened Michael Carrick’s case
Carrick took charge in January until the end of the season after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim. Since then, he has overseen seven wins and only one defeat in 10 matches, a run that has kept United on track for Champions League qualification.
United now need four wins and a draw from their remaining seven matches to secure a return to Europe’s top club competition after a two-year absence. The club’s hierarchy has said it will not rush the process, even as the pool of alternatives appears to have narrowed.
The squad’s camp in Ireland is also part of the preparation for Leeds United’s visit to Old Trafford on Monday. United are sitting third in the Premier League, and another victory would further strengthen their place in the qualification spots.
Players praise the atmosphere under Carrick
Striker Bryan Mbeumo also offered support, saying the squad has benefited from Carrick’s understanding of the club and his communication with the players. “We’ve got good experience with him, ” Mbeumo said. “He knows how to talk to us and we’re going to try to take as much as we can from him. ”
That shared backing matters because the club’s next move is set to shape the direction of the team beyond this season. At the same time, the final call remains with the club’s leadership and is expected after the campaign ends.
What happens next for Michael Carrick
For now, Michael Carrick remains in charge as United continue their push for Champions League football. If the results hold, the argument for continuity will only grow stronger. If not, the club’s leadership will still face a defining decision over whether Michael Carrick stays on permanently or the search resumes elsewhere.
