Lockdown at Ysgol Calon Cymru after man seen near school — lockdown lifted

Ysgol Calon Cymru’s Llandrindod Wells campus was put in lockdown after a man was seen near the school with what appeared to be a bladed article, the lockdown starting at approximately 3: 00pm ET. Dyfed-Powys Police deployed officers and established within 40 minutes that the item was a garden tool and secured it in a shed. All pupils have since left the campus and police say no threats were made to the school.

Lockdown ordered as officers respond

Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of concerns for a male seen with what appeared to be a bladed article on Dyffryn Road, heading towards High St, at approximately 3: 00pm ET. Several officers were deployed to the area and, as a precautionary measure due to the proximity, Ysgol Calon Cymru was placed in lockdown.

Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of concerns raised for a male, seen with what appeared to be a bladed article, on Dyffryn Road, Llandrindod Wells, heading towards High St, at approx. 3pm today. Several officers were deployed to the area and as a precautionary measure, due to the proximity, Ysgol Calon Cymru was placed in lockdown. “

Police secure garden tool; pupils released

Within 40 minutes of the initial report, officers identified the male and established the item was a garden tool. The garden tool has been secured in a shed and pupils were released from the school premises. A Powys Council spokesman added: “The council were made aware that the Llandrindod campus of Ysgol Calon Cymru has gone into lockdown due to an incident outside the boundaries of the school. The police requested a lockdown. “

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that no threats were made to the school and that all pupils have now left the campus.

Officials have secured the item and completed the immediate safety response; parents received alerts through class charts while officers carried out identification and recovery of the garden tool.
