Szoboszlai sends urgent message ahead of Tottenham at Anfield after Galatasaray frustration

szoboszlai is demanding Liverpool deliver a “true representation” of themselves when Tottenham Hotspur visit Anfield on Sunday afternoon. The midfielder spoke after a midweek Champions League defeat at Galatasaray, saying the result and performance left him “pretty angry. ” Liverpool return to Premier League action at home after three consecutive away matches, with Champions League qualification still a stated objective.

Szoboszlai: “We didn’t play in a way like we should”

In remarks released by Liverpool’s official club media, Szoboszlai did not hide his frustration with what happened in Istanbul. “I was pretty angry after the game because of the result but not only about that, ” he said. “Because I feel that we didn’t play in a way like we should and we can. ”

He stressed that the squad has already shown what it is capable of at its best. “Because we showed it so many times that we are able to win against any team actually or compete against any team in the league or in European football, ” Szoboszlai added, framing the Galatasaray disappointment as a failure to reach an expected standard rather than a reflection of Liverpool’s ceiling.

Attention, he said, has to move quickly to what comes next. “We have to really focus on the upcoming games because now it’s Tottenham on Sunday and next week on Wednesday is going to be a big game – I can’t wait for it, ” he said, underlining the pace of the schedule and the urgency around immediate response.

Focus inward, with Champions League qualification in mind

Tottenham arrive on Merseyside needing points in their objective to maintain their top-flight status, but Szoboszlai made clear Liverpool’s approach must be self-driven. “To be honest, I’m not thinking about them. I’m thinking about us because also we have some things to fight for, ” he said.

He pointed directly to the season target Liverpool are chasing. “We want to play next year in the Champions League, so there is a spot to go for, ” Szoboszlai said, adding that the path forward is about execution rather than external noise: “But first of all, we have to focus on ourselves and do the right stuff, do the right things and then everything is going to be all right. ”

Sunday also marks a return to Anfield after three away fixtures, a factor Szoboszlai described as significant. “It’s a huge difference. We need them on Sunday, for sure, ” he said, calling for supporters to turn up and raise the volume.

Anfield atmosphere urged after Istanbul volume

Szoboszlai referenced the environment Liverpool faced at Galatasaray as a benchmark for what he wants at home. “We felt in Istanbul how it is to play in such a loud stadium with such great fans, but I think we can show the same at home, ” he said. “We’re going to need each of them. ”

His appeal was not limited to the Tottenham match, either. “Everybody who is able to come should come, ” Szoboszlai said, adding: “We need them as loud as they can be, especially next week on Wednesday. ”

What’s next

Liverpool’s immediate test is Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, with Szoboszlai framing it as a fast chance to reset after the Galatasaray defeat. The club then turns to a major midweek fixture next Wednesday, with Szoboszlai already signaling the level of intensity and support he believes Liverpool will need. For Liverpool’s dressing room, the message from szoboszlai is simple: raise standards now, starting at home.
