Big East Tournament: No. 1 UConn Set for Georgetown Quarterfinal as Broadcast Plans Lock In

The University of Connecticut Athletics department confirmed that UConn (31-0, 20-0 BIG EAST) will take on Georgetown (14-16, 6-14) in the 2026 BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday at noon ET. The setting is Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

UConn is the No. 1 seed this weekend after winning the 2025–26 BIG EAST regular season championship. The program is seeking its 31st conference tournament title and its 24th as a member of the BIG EAST, and it enters the weekend having won 12 consecutive conference tournament championships. UConn also finished the regular season undefeated for the 11th time in program history.

Broadcast: Peacock and NBC Sports Network, plus UConn Sports Network from Learfield

Saturday’s quarterfinal will air on peacock/NBC Sports Network and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97. 9), the school said. The BIG EAST Conference also announced that Peacock and NBC Sports Network are set to broadcast BIG EAST basketball tournament action.

The conference’s tournament update also referenced additional opening-round and tournament developments, including: St. John’s topping Xavier Friday night to wrap up opening round action, Providence pulling away from DePaul to advance to the quarterfinals, and Georgetown pushing past Butler in the opening round.

UConn honors haul and the players shaping this quarterfinal

UConn’s end-of-season BIG EAST honors list is headlined by sophomore Sarah Strong, named the conference’s Player and Defensive Player of the Year. Blanca Quiñonez was named Freshman and Sixth Woman of the Year.

Strong was selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team alongside graduate student Azzi Fudd and junior KK Arnold. Strong and Arnold were also named to the All-Defensive Team. Quiñonez landed on the All-BIG EAST Second Team and All-Freshman Team, while junior Ashlynn Shade earned All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention recognition.

UConn closed the regular season with an 85-49 win over St. John’s at Madison Square Garden last Sunday. In that game, Fudd led four Huskies in double-digit scoring with 14 points, and Strong posted 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and six steals.

Georgetown’s path in, recent meeting, and Saturday’s ceremony

Georgetown earned the quarterfinal berth by beating No. 9-seed Butler, 62-58, on Friday. Khia Miller leads the Hoyas this season with 9. 2 points per game. Darnell Haney is in his second season as head coach at Georgetown.

The teams last met on Feb. 26 in Hartford, a game UConn won 84-52. Fudd led UConn with 24 points in that contest. UConn Athletics also noted a family connection: Fudd’s mother, Katie, played at Georgetown from 1998–01.

Historically, UConn is 59-6 all-time against Georgetown and has won the last 42 meetings between the teams.

During Saturday’s game, the BIG EAST will honor alumna Peggy Myers ’86 as part of the BIG EAST Basketball Legends program.
