He added that the threats came by email and were repeated. “I had six or seven emails saying if I’m still in the car by Miami, that I’ll be, you know, all my limbs will be cut off, ” he said.
Then, away from the digital warnings, he described a face-to-face moment of danger. Doohan said he saw three “armed men” and that the situation escalated to the point that he sought help from authorities. “I had to call my police escort to come get it under control, ” he said. He did not describe how the incident ended and did not identify who was responsible for either the emails or the armed encounter.
How did the threats intersect with his Alpine exit?
The events Doohan described came at a pivotal time in his career. He made his debut for Alpine in the last race of 2024. After Miami — the sixth race of the 2025 season — he was dropped by Alpine and replaced by Franco Colapinto.

After Colapinto replaced him in May, Doohan posted on social media that he and his family had been facing online abuse.
