Corey Harrison and the hospital bills that followed a motorcycle crash: asking fans for help

Corey Harrison is recovering at home after a motorcycle accident in Tulum, Mexico, and a string of complications that pushed his medical costs into six figures. In recent days, a GoFundMe has been created on his behalf as he says he is out of money, in debt to family and friends, and unable to work while he heals.
What happened to Corey Harrison in Mexico?
In January, Corey Harrison was involved in a motorcycle crash in Tulum that left him with significant injuries. He described 11 fractured ribs, a concussion, and facial injuries. In another account of the same ordeal, his injuries also included shoulder compression fractures in his neck and cuts that required 10 stitches in his hand. The injuries were severe enough that he missed his father Rick Harrison’s January wedding.
Corey Harrison said he spent two weeks in the hospital, then checked himself out early as the bills mounted. While resting at his home in Tulum, he said he began experiencing excruciating pain and received IV fluids and morphine treatments from a house doctor. The treatments did not resolve the crisis. He said his oxygen levels dropped and he feared he might die because he could not afford to return to the hospital.
Friends eventually took him to a different facility he described as more affordable. There, he said he underwent three surgeries and spent an additional 18 days hospitalized. Another description of his hospitalization says he spent nearly a month in the hospital and had more than three liters of blood drained from his lungs.
Why is Corey Harrison asking fans for help with medical bills?
Corey Harrison says he has spent roughly $120, 000 on medical bills, and another figure cited for his costs is $130, 000. He says the amount is more than he can bear and that he has just $400 left in his bank account. He also says he owes money to his father and friends who loaned him funds to cover the expenses.
A GoFundMe has been created on his behalf with a goal of $18, 000. The fundraiser was set up by Aron Chambers, described as a friend and co-worker from “Pawn Stars. ” At one point after it was established, $1, 275 had been collected.
Corey Harrison said he was reluctant to ask fans for help, but framed the situation as a matter of limited choices while he recovers. He said he cannot move from his recliner. He also said he still receives some residual checks from reruns of “Pawn Stars, ” but that he is now completely removed from the show.
He also said he has no health insurance, and that he did not budget for a six-figure medical hit. He described being unable to film or do much work right now, and said he has paused the “Corey Harrison Show” podcast, which originates from Tulum. He also said it will take eight months to get better.
Who is responding, and what happens next?
The immediate response has come from people closest to him, starting with friends who helped transport him to a different hospital during the worst of his complications, and continuing with the GoFundMe created by Aron Chambers to help cover costs.
Rick Harrison, Corey Harrison’s father, addressed the situation with a brief statement: “Corey is a grown man and he will deal with his life as he sees fit. ”
For now, Corey Harrison says he is out of the hospital and recovering at home. The fundraiser remains a focal point of his short-term financial survival while his recovery timeline stretches on, and while he says he cannot return to filming or regular work.
In Tulum, the story returns to the same intimate image he used to explain why he is asking strangers for help: a man stuck in a recliner, measuring his days in pain levels and breathing, not in filming schedules. Corey Harrison’s ordeal has moved from the chaos of an accident to the quieter strain of invoices and repayment, raising a blunt question that does not disappear when the bruises fade: what does recovery cost when the bills arrive faster than the body can heal?
