Release date, editions, and pre-order bonuses confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2

Gameplay Group’s update sets the release date at July 2, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, and outlines how the game will be sold at launch. A standard version will be priced at $29. 99, while a Deluxe Edition will be priced at $49. 99.

Pre-order bonuses were also detailed: players who pre-order will receive the Samurai Appa support character skin, exclusive character colors, and voting privilege for the Year 1 Pass character.

The official feature set described for the game emphasizes its competitive backbone and accessibility. It is presented as a fighter rooted in elemental mastery, designed for newcomers and veterans, and built with a focus on fluidity, responsiveness, and online integrity. The game is hand-drawn in 2D to preserve the style and expressive animation of the original series, and it includes proprietary best-in-class rollback netcode and full cross-play for competitive play.

EVO Awards 2026 trailer reveals new fighters as roster details sharpen

At the EVO Awards 2026, a new trailer confirmed three additional playable characters for the base roster: Zaheer, Fire Lord Ozai, and Avatar Kyoshi. The same trailer context also reiterated earlier reveals, listing Aang, Korra, Zuko, Katara, Toph, Sokka, and Azula among the characters already announced.

The base roster is confirmed to include 12 characters at launch, meaning two fighters remain to be revealed. The trailer did not show gameplay for Zaheer, Fire Lord Ozai, or Avatar Kyoshi, instead presenting them in a splash screen alongside the previously revealed characters. However, it did provide first glimpses of gameplay for Azula and Sokka.

Additional launch features highlighted include a story mode, ranked matches, casual matches, custom lobbies, a gallery mode with never-before-seen artwork, and a training mode. In the middle of the rollout, the platform list expands beyond consoles to include other systems, but Nintendo Switch 2 remains a confirmed launch destination alongside Nintendo Switch.

Publishing partnership announced as leaders promise “responsiveness, depth, and competitive play”

Separately, Gameplay Group International and PM Studios announced a global publishing partnership for AVATAR LEGENDS: The Fighting Game, in collaboration with Paramount, Skydance, and Avatar Studios. The project is described as being developed together with Nickelodeon Animation Studios, and positioned as a fast-paced 1v1 fighter set within the worlds of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.

Victor Lugo, Founder & CCO, Gameplay Group International, framed the goal in practical terms: “For us, this is about delivering a fighting game that feels right in the hands of players from day one, ” Lugo said. He added that the team built “a system focused on responsiveness, depth, and competitive play, ” and expressed excitement to bring that experience to the fighting game community with PM Studios as partner.

Michael Yum, CEO of PM Studios, pointed to the franchise’s long-standing fan connection and emphasized support for the development vision, calling the opportunity to help bring the game to players “something we’re truly excited to be a part of. ”

Quick context and what comes next

The game is positioned as a hand-drawn 2D fighter built around elemental mastery, with a canon Story Mode and an online suite anchored by rollback netcode and cross-play. A post-launch seasonal roadmap is also referenced, with additional characters planned beyond the 12-fighter launch roster.

Next, attention turns to the final two unannounced launch fighters and any further detail on editions and content beyond the pricing already disclosed. For players tracking the rollout, nintendo switch 2 now has a firm date tied to this release: July 2, 2026.
