At 8 p. m. ET on a Wednesday night, the familiar weekly ritual returns on CBS—and with it, ozzy survivor is back in the spotlight, carrying not just a competitive legacy but a personal history he once assumed would close doors. Ozzy Lusth, now 44, has spoken publicly about being “surprised” the network asked him to return after an explicit OnlyFans period he described as involving “pretty hardcore stuff. ”
Why did Ozzy Lusth think he would not be invited back?
In a recent interview, Lusth said he “never thought” he had a chance to return to Survivor after shifting from reality television to OnlyFans. “I’m surprised CBS asked me back after everything, ” he said, adding, “I dabbled in some pretty hardcore stuff. ”
He described the period as emotionally difficult. “It was pretty dark for a while. I wasn’t in a good place back then, and my choices reflected that, but I have no regrets, ” Lusth said. He also acknowledged he expected the adult content to be disqualifying for what he called a “family-friendly show, ” saying he thought it would be “a reason they wouldn’t want me on this. ”
Lusth said the show’s casting director, Jesse Tannenbaum, assured him that producers were aware of his side work and that it was not a deal breaker. In a separate interview earlier this year, Lusth recalled checking in bluntly: “Dude, are you sure?” He said Tannenbaum’s response was unequivocal: “They know everything. They know it all. It’s not a deal breaker. ”
What do we know about his OnlyFans and earlier adult-industry work?
Lusth launched an OnlyFans account in 2021, where he posted nude photos and sex tapes. The account is no longer active. He came out as bisexual the following year.
He has also described earlier adult-industry work that predates OnlyFans. Shortly after finishing as the runner-up on his first season of Survivor, he appeared in an episode of the Playboy TV reality dating series Foursome. Recalling how it happened, Lusth said he answered an ad that offered to “spend 24 hours with two couples, ” explaining it paid $500. He said he had done nude modeling in college and worked as a stripper in college, adding, “I’ve been an exhibitionist my whole life. ”
In the same recollection, he said he did not fully consider the permanence of explicit material online. He said he was focused on having fun and that the experience gave him a “taste” for performing on a set, describing it as something he “kinda liked. ”
Lusth also said Survivor’s former casting director, Lynne Spillman, was “furious” when she learned about the Foursome appearance. He said he wrote an apology letter to longtime host Jeff Probst, but added that it “didn’t seem to affect them casting me anymore. ”
What is Ozzy Lusth returning to on Survivor 50?
Lusth has competed on five seasons of Survivor: Cook Islands, Micronesia, South Pacific, Game Changers, and Survivor 50, which premiered on Wednesday, February 25. Survivor 50 airs on CBS Wednesdays at 8 p. m. ET.
His return lands atop a long list of game-related milestones that have kept his name lodged in the show’s mythology. A player preview of his career highlighted that he tied a record for most immunity challenges won in a single season and noted a string of other distinctions: being the first returning player to find a hidden immunity idol; being the first to make a fake hidden immunity idol that another castaway played; and being described as the most voted-out player in the show’s history, eliminated five times across four seasons.
The same preview described him as the only castaway to compete across multiple player formats—an all-new cast season, a half-new/half-returnee season, a one-returnee-per-tribe season, and an all-returnee season. It also credited him as the first—and so far only—player to make it to the merge four times, and the first to attend Final Tribal Council four times.
In Cook Islands, the preview described a season framed as controversial, with castaways divided into four tribes based on race. Lusth was placed on the Aitutaki tribe, initially made up of Hispanic-Americans. The preview said his survival skills helped create a more comfortable camp life, and that he formed bonds with most tribemates except Billy Garcia, whom he felt did not contribute around camp. After the first immunity win, the preview said Lusth suggested intentionally losing the next challenge to vote Garcia out; the tribe ultimately did so and eliminated him at their first Tribal Council.
