Flyers Vs Ducks spotlight: Zegras’ first game back at Honda Center
Trevor Zegras is again at the center of this rivalry moment. When Anaheim visited Philadelphia in January, it was Zegras’ first game against his original team since being traded to the Flyers on June 23, 2025, and he responded with two goals from nearly the same spot in the right circle. After his first tally, Zegras mimed a phone hang-up, referencing what he described as a very brief call from Ducks management informing him of the trade.
On Tuesday, after a Flyers practice in preparation for the trip, Zegras made clear that his feelings toward Anaheim’s fan base remain warm. “I mean, they were so good to me, ” Zegras said Tuesday. “Like so good to me. Gave me so much confidence, and they made it so fun to come and play in front of them at the Honda Center… It’ll be definitely good to see them, for sure. ”
Zegras also described the return as more about experience than anger. “I think it’ll be just cooler to be back, ” he said. “Like it’ll be weird like playing on the other bench and like warming up on the other side… I feel like so much time has gone by now that it’s more like it will be a cool experience than chip on my shoulder, I guess. ”
This season, Zegras sits second on the Flyers with 22 goals and 54 points in 66 games, including eight power-play goals and three game-winning goals. His January performance against Anaheim included a power-play goal.
Bad blood from the last meeting, even with one key absence
The Jan. 6 matchup was described as feisty, emotional, and increasingly chippy, with several incidents away from the puck. Flyers defenseman Jamie Drysdale was injured on a hit by Anaheim’s Ross Johnston, who received a match penalty. Drysdale missed the next three games.
Earlier in that same game, then-Flyer Bobby Brink was injured on a hit from Jansen Harkins away from the puck, leading Noah Cates to fight Harkins in Brink’s defense for the first time in Cates’ career.
